I’m typically skeptical of quick associations to an Orwellian police state, but I’m inclined to join those calling for a preemptive thwarting of soviet-style measures like the one being suggested in Washington DC.

D.C. Police would set-up checkpoints in targeted areas, demand to see ID and refuse admittance to people who don’t live there, work there or have a “legitimate reason” to be there.

Forget the fact that the mere desire to make use of public property (e.g. roads or sidewalks) is a “legitimate reason,”what makes officials think that such an action would be legal at ALL?
