BFTB tour: Nashville
I took the ‘Bout-Fucking-Time Bash tour* down to Nashville, TN this weekend to visit my Bro-Bro. Bro-Bro (for those of you who do NOT live in my head) is my little brother (who, incidentally, has been bigger than me for most of my life). I must say that Nashville is a great city. Bro-Bro has fallen in love with it in the same way that I fell in love with Louisville.
Bro-Bro is apartment/dog/cat sitting for some friends who live in an apartment smack in the middle of downtown. Seriously, the red neon of the Printer’s Alley sign has burned a permanent image of the sign in to my eyelids. I arrived right in the middle of the CMA fanfest. Now I, not being a fan of country adult contemporary with a twang was nonplussed by the weekend’s soundtrack and was not endeared to the musical genre by the…erm…colorful and surging population of rural ex-pats. That aside, Bro-Bro did not disappoint (is the’Bro-Bro’ thing getting to you yet? ok, his name is David)
The highlight of the weekend was certainly seeing David who had to spend a lot of time taking care of two adorable pups named Ollie and Murphy - collectively known as the Dandermuffins.
We ate and drank a lot. That bears repeating. We ate and drank a lot. Dave has some great friends who introduced me to the bubbling Nashville art scene when we attended the opening of the Rymer gallery. It is a very impressive space which has managed to find some extraordinary talent to help adorn their walls.
I didn’t take many pictures, as I constantly forgot the camera, but I did snap a few of the Parthenon. I really wanted to see this structure and the statue of Athena and Nike inside. I was duly impressed.
That’s my homegirl right there.
Since I’ve been in school for so long, I’ve promised my perplexed relatives and friends that I would pay them a visit when I graduated, no matter where they lived. Well, it’s about time, innit?
